HELLO 2019!

It has taken us a week and a half to write our first 2019 post and what better way to start by showing off the work of our S3 Design classes? Last week they finished their book end project and the overall quality of work is excellent, as you can see below…

Emily Cleland spent some of her October holidays on work experience with the Highland Council in Inverness (which she arranged herself).  Some of that time was spent in the Planning Department, where she had the opportunity to create a CAD visual for a development plan the council were producing.

Emily was able to use her CAD and design skills to create a contemporary and refined visual – well done Emily!

Emily is studying Higher Graphic Communication and Design and Manufacture, and is going to have a very bright future in design.

As promised, here are some photos of the Auldearn P7 visit on Friday. The visit was part of a transition project we are running with Auldearn, where pupils are preparing and finishing giant letters for their new school sign. The P7 pupils met Mrs Sharkey, Miss Anderson and our wonderful technician Mr Leith, who is cutting out all the letters for us.

We will have another two groups visiting us to complete their letters. Once all the preparation and finishing  is done they will take the letters back to Auldearn and decorate them with their designs.

We really enjoyed the morning and are looking forward to working with the next group. Thanks to Julie Lawson and Dawn Smith for all their help getting the pupils prepped and organised for the visit.

Busy Fridays…

We had such a busy day on Friday with visitors from Morrison Construction and Auldearn Primary School in.

A big thank you to Morrison Construction for coming along to speak to the S3 Practical Woodworking classes about careers in construction.  It was hugely informative for the pupils and they were able to ask all of their questions.

Auldearn Primary 7 pupils came along to the department as part of a transition project to give them some experience before starting in August.  They were in the workshop preparing wooden letters for painting.  These are going to be placed outside of their school.  Pics to come soon…
